Stop us if you’ve heard this one before…
New England got off to a fast start Saturday against a struggling Orlando City FC, with Juan Agudelo sneaking a header past Earl Edwards in the 7th minute and Cristian Penilla picking up his ninth goal of the campaign nearly 10 minutes later. The Revs gave up a tough goal just before the end of the half off a Dom Dwyer beauty, but still lead 2-1 at the break.
In the second half, Orlando drew even in the 71st minute, but just five minutes later Teal Bunbury came off the bench and found the back of the net to give the Revs a 3-2 lead, that wouldn’t last. In extra time, Orlando’s Scott Sutter connected on a redirected, but questionable free kick to bring the Lions level and ruin New England’s chance to pick up three much-needed points on the road.
The Revs are now in sixth place -- barely above the red line -- with a record of 7-7-8.
With Alex on special assignment this week, Ray and Jon welcome back Julian Cardillo, of ProSoccerUSA.comand Sean Sweeney, from Boston Sports Journalto discuss the Revs’ continuing backline woes and see how the recent roster moves will shakeup Brad Friedel’s lineup.
Then we look ahead to this weekend’s must-win versus the Philadelphia Union, who remain two points behind the Revs on the table. We’ll see what New England needs to do to get back on track with Mike Servedio, of KYW Radio’s Philly Soccer Show.
